Rebecca Snell: Blog Author, with Giant African Millipede Erebus.

My name is Rebecca Snell, I am an MScRes in Biological Science student & First Class BSc Zoology with Animal Behaviour graduate at Bangor University, conducting research into refining housing standards and improving welfare in laboratory rodents.

Outside of academia I am an active Associate Member of the Association of British and Irish Wild Animal Keepers (ABWAK), the International Congress on Zookeeping and previously Chaired Bangor University Zoological Society.

I have been volunteering as a Zoo Keeper at the Welsh Mountain Zoo, Colwyn Bay since December 2013.

Previously worked as a full time Seasonal Keeper at Peak Wildlife Park, Leek, and volunteered at several other wildlife parks / zoos.

I am looking to gain a career within the field of Zoo Keeping and Conservation, with an aim to eventually open an Exotic Animal Rescue centre and Zoological Park.

Over the past seven years I have helped re-home various abandoned exotic animals, ranging from Bearded Dragons to Raccoon-Dogs.

On a smaller scale I have several of my own animals at home, some of which were themselves abandoned by previous owners.

Read their stories in my Animal Tales section.
